Jaw Pain/Bruxism

What Is Bruxism?

Bruxism is a condition that involves grinding or clenching of the teeth, often during sleep. It can cause a variety of problems, including tooth damage, jaw pain, and headaches.

I have had great success with treating jaw pain and bruxism. Often, clenching is the real cause of strain to the small temporomandibular joint. By administering Botox into the muscles of the jaw, and sometimes the temple area, those muscles responsible for grinding and clenching become relaxed.

The effects of treatment often last for several months. Our office will work with your insurance carrier to try to get the Botox medicine covered. If the medicine is not covered, often the procedure will be covered which helps to defer out-of-pocket expenses.

*While Botox may be effective in reducing bruxism-related tooth grinding and jaw clenching, it is important to note that it is not a permanent solution and the injections will need to be repeated in order to maintain the desired level of symptom relief. It is also important to address any underlying causes of bruxism, such as stress or sleep disorders, in order to manage the condition effectively.
